An Athletic Update – February 2018

Roosevelt’s Athletic Director Sanjay Bedi has been working with the Alumni Association quite heavily this school year and has written this update for us to share with all alumni. He would like to share information on the successful Winter season that just concluded and the upcoming Spring season which is just starting. Read more:

Varsity Men’s Basketball Team.

We are just getting to the close of the Winter sports season. We have had a successful season qualifying 5 Wrestlers and 1 Swimmer to State. We have also just qualified both our Girls & Boys Basketball programs to the State Playoffs. Both programs are coming off winning successful seasons and are going to be competitive in the playoffs – stay tuned! Good Luck to the Dance Team as they have competitions coming up and are also preparing for the State Dance Competition in March. A big Thank You to the Cheer program for their support of the basketball programs. This is the biggest Cheer & Dance Squads that we have had in a while.

Half of the Swim Team.

We kick of the Spring Sports Season on Monday, February 26th with the following sports: Softball, Baseball, Track & Field, Tennis & Golf.  We have returning coaches in Softball Coach Kelsey Porter, Track & Field Coach Jonquil Vann, and Golf Coach Ryan O’Meara. We have new coaches in Baseball Coach Tony Fair, Girls Tennis Coach Nina Nguyen, and Boys Tennis Coach Franklin Truong.  We are looking forward to a competitive Spring Sports Season and we are hopeful to break in our new Baseball/Softball field in April for league play. Stay tuned for our opening game celebration.

Ladies Varsity Basketball Team.

I have also been busy planning ahead for the Fall as we have officially hired interim Football Coach Tim Price to take over the program. Tim comes to us with the experience of building successful programs both at Jefferson High School and Parkrose High School.  I am also excited to announce that we just hired Denetia Carline as our new Volleyball Coach. Denetia played 4 years of volleyball at Jackson State University and brings tremendous experience with her.

Part of the Wrestling Team.

Roosevelt is headed in a very positive direction and we are looking forward to continued growth and success of our programs.

Sanjay Bedi

Roosevelt Athletic Director
